Bharat, as the Founding MD & CEO of Aditya Birla Private Equity (ABPE), leads a team managing upwards of $140m with a differentiated active investment style. He is with the Group for more than 15 years; was President – Group Finance and is youngest CEO in the Group. His role as head of Group finances as in-house investment bank involved business growth and new business entry by organic and inorganic initiatives (mergers, acquisitions & divestitures); value management via business planning and budgeting and performance enhancement besides strategic advise on domestic and global capital-raising and Group level Investor Relations. He has led India’s most complex and largest M&A deals like Idea Cellular, L&T cement, Hindalco-Birla Copper merger, Nuvo-Indo Gulf-Birla Global merger, etc and floated multi-billion dollar Ultra Tech and Idea Cellular publicly, besides multiple global fund raising. He is recipient of the Aditya Birla Group Chairman’s ‘Exceptional Contributor’ award and ‘Professional Achiever – Finance Sector 2008’ from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Earlier, he was with investment bank JV of J P Morgan with ICICI in India, responsible for primary markets and corporate finance practice, select clients: Aditya Birla Group, Bharat Earth Movers Limited, ONGC, HMT, Mercator Lines. He is Fellow Chartered Accountant, Associate Cost Accountant and Company Secretary, being a merit ranker throughout. An active member of CII National Committee on Capital Markets, he represented CII on a SEBI committee. For ICAI, he was a member of ‘Continuing Professional Education Committee’ and had co-authored a book on ‘Project Finance’. He is a member of the Board at Aditya Birla Capital Advisors and V-Mart Retail and led investment in Bombay Stock Exchange and Bartronics. His views on business, strategy and finance are published regularly in business journals/ media and at professional bodies. He writes a column in business magazine ‘The Entrepreneur’ and mentors start-up entrepreneurs.
