After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant at the young age of 23, Binod Shankar started his career in an Govt owned industrial bank in India where he cut his teeth on loan and project appraisal of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He then spent six years mainly in external audit (with elements of financial due diligence, financial feasibility and valuation) with KPMG, Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young in Oman and Dubai. Binod then joined Nakheel, the leading UAE property developer, as Manager-Financial Analysis and was the Director-Finance of its largest project by the time he left in 2007. His last position was as the Executive Director-Finance at Gulf Finance House in Bahrain. In 2009, spurred by a passion for impact and independence via training, Binod left a successful career to co-found Genesis. He and his team built Genesis into a reputed brand in financial training in the region and propelled Genesis to be the leader in CFA prep courses in the GCC with a client list that includes some highly respected corporates. In 2017, Genesis was sold to Kaplan Inc, the US based education and publishing giant. Binod continues to work at Kaplan Genesis, the new entity. Binod appears frequently on CNBC Arabia as a guest on financial markets. He is also a platform speaker who has presented at several events relating to finance and SMEs in the UAE. He has also written quite a few articles on finance and travel in The National, Gulf Business and Gulf News. Binod does voluntary work; He is a Mentor and recently joined Reach, a UAE based organization that matches Mentors with young female Mentees. Apart from training, leading and mentoring, Binod is an Endurance Athlete and is a long distance runner, high altitude trekker, mountaineer and long-distance cyclist. He has wrapped up two marathons. He has also trekked up Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (5,895m), Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal (4,200 m), Stok Kangri in Ladakh (6,153 m), cycled 550km from Manali to Leh over 10 consecutive days (an adventure through five mountain passes ranging from 3,900m to 5,600m) and cycled 500 km from Pune to Goa over 5 consecutive days. Binod is aged 48 and is a Chartered Accountant and a CFA charter holder. He is based in Dubai, a place that he has called home for the past 17 years.
