Dipankar Sanyal

Dipankar Sanyal has over 42 years of extensive and diversified experience in the Information Technology industry at various levels of seniority and in different roles; 2 years experience of managing a retail pharmaceutical business in India followed by over 3 years of providing guidance to Indian Corporate leadership for environmentally and socially compatible business strategy and practices. His work experience with global companies e.g. Wang Laboratories, Groupe Bull, Oracle and two Indian companies have taken him from Singapore to the Middle-Eastern countries, Europe, the USA, Indian sub-continent and East Asian countries. Starting as Software Engineer, Dipankar Sanyal managed software and services business, moved to strategic products management, Sales and Marketing of IT solutions that included hardware, networking, software and complementing services. Returned to India in 1994, with an assignment with Oracle India to set up the marketing function of the company in the SAARC countries, and moved on to lead Sales and Business Development functions of the company. After 9 plus years at Oracle, Dipankar Sanyal worked one year as independent Consultant, followed by an association with a retail pharmaceutical company where he was responsible for its operations as President of the company helping to grow its operations and revenues 3 fold in less than two years. Thereafter, he returned to IT industry and joined an Indian software products and services company as its Executive Director/CEO. Invited by Dr. R K Pachauri, Dipankar Sanyal joined TERI to lead TERI-Business Council for Sustainable Development, a Global partner of World Business Council for Sustainable Development, in early 2012 and have been instrumental in bringing in dynamism to engage the 100 plus council members for meaningful and strategic sustainable developmental programmes. Members of the Business Council were from the top 200 companies in India. While at TERI, he also lead formation of Indian GHG Programme in partnership with World Resources Institute, Washington DC and CII. This under its management covered over 25% of Indias GHG emission as of end of 2014, which on joining of India Railways reached almost 40%. The other initiative for Responsible Project Financing was initiated in coordination with IBA and RBI to give priority for environmentally and socially sustainable projects; now referred as Green Projects.
