Diwakar is an M.Tech Computer Science from IIT, Madras. He started his career from HCL in 1976 as a Software Engineer. He quickly realized that building large scale software products will need a specialized company. He founded Softek in early 1979. Softek developed Compilers, Operating Systems, Word-Processors; at one time all the Indian computer manufacturers, like HCL, Wipro, ORG, ECIL etc. , were reselling Softek’s products. Softek developed India’s first Hindi word processor, Sulekh/ Aksahr. Softek was also involved in Banking Mechanization project back in 80’s and Electronic Commissions People’s PC project as the major software supplier. Diwakar is a Founder member of Nasscom and in early stages headed Nasscom’s task forces on Piracy. He has been involved in Nasscom’s Mentoring program and have been active with Nasscom Product Forum.
Diwakar started his next venture, Newgen in 1992. Newgen has developed world class products in ECM, BPM and CCM areas. All three products figure in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant and also find Mention in Forrestor’s report. Newgen is probably the only pure play horizontal product company to get such recognition from this part of the world. Newgen sells these products and solutions in BFSI, BPO/SSC, Government, segments. Newgen’s products and solutions have installations in 50+ countries. Newgen today is a very well established company in Software Product area. Newgen is also a founding member of iSprit.
