Jyoti Sagar

Jyoti Sagar has been practicing law since 1976. He founded J. Sagar Associates (JSA), as a corporate commercial law practice, in New Delhi in 1991 as a solo as a solo practitioner. JSA now has over 240 professionals in five offices in India. He also founded K&S Partners, an IP boutique, in 1994 with three professionals. K&S now has over 75 professionals in three offices in India. Jyoti has extensive experience in a wide range of practice areas including Corporate Commercial, Foreign Direct Investment, Joint Ventures, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Infrastructure Projects. He has worked extensively on several policy issues and has served on various committees of the Government of India and Chambers of Commerce. Jyoti is regarded as a pioneer in bringing about paradigm shift in law firm ownership and management structures in India. Both K&S and JSA have features which are unique for Indian law firms, including a ‘no family’ rule, admittance to partnership without goodwill buy-in, retirement age for partners, innovative partner compensation mechanisms and shared vision, mission and expressed core values.

Jyoti is the Past President of Asian Patent Attorneys Association (Indian Group). He is Vice President, Society of Indian Law Firms and is a member of a number of national and international professional bodies and organizations. He is also associated with the voluntary sector. He currently serves as President of Sampradaan Indian Centre for Philanthropy; Chairman of Society for Urban Regeneration of Gurgaon (a NGO which focuses on long term sustainable development issues for the city of Gurgaon, National Capital Region); Trustee of Genesis Foundation (engaged in provision of critical medical assistance to orphans and underprivileged children); and supports Deepalaya (engaged in education of slum children in the National Capital Region). Jyoti is a frequent speaker and presenter at national and international conferences and seminars.
