I have over 18 years of investment experience of which the last ten years has been devoted to investing in the Private Equity and Venture Capital space. I have done my B.E. (Electrical Engineering) from Punjab Engineering College (http://www.pec.ac.in/) and also have an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (http://w3.ximb.ac.in/). I worked the first six years of my career, from 1993 to 1999, in the Indian listed equities fund management space with firms including SBI Funds Management Ltd. (www.sbifunds.com) and GE Capital Funds Management Ltd. I moved to the Gulf in 1999 and worked for two years at Al Sharqiya Investment Holding co. in Muscat where I was responsible for the conceptualization and development of one of the largest Infrastructure projects in Oman. I joined a boutique investment firm, Starling International (www.starlinggroup.com), as Director of Investments in 2001 with a focus purely on investing in the Private Equity and Venture Capital asset class. For the last three years, since 2008, I have been responsible for building the Emerging Markets PE & VC portfolio at the Abu Dhabi Investment Council (www.adcouncil.ae), one of the largest Sovereign Wealth Funds in the world.
I have substantial investment experience particularly in Venture Capital investing across the globe and have significant networks with some of the most highly respected VC firms in the US, China and India. In early 2008, I co-founded Genesis Institute (www.genesireview.com) which has, over the last three years, become the largest provider of CFA and FRM training in the Middle East. The company currently runs with an annual revenue run rate of approximately $2Mn and has been profitable from Day 1. While I do not maintain an active day-to-day role, I have retained the role of Chairman and remain an active member of the board, helping the company grow and deal with strategic issues.
