Rajesh Rai brings over 17 years of global venture capital, corporate and entrepreneurial experience. Rajesh currently serves as an Advisor to India Innovation Fund and India Venture Partners. Rajesh led India Innovation Fund’s investments in Mitra Biotech, Surewaves, Sedemac, Consure Medical and Shantani. India Innovation Fund invests in early stage, innovation driven companies from India. Prior to joining IIF as CEO in 2010, Rajesh co-founded and served as Partner with New Markets Venture Partners (NMVP), a leading venture capital fund in the Washington DC region with over 20 portfolio companies in information technology, health care and education. Rajesh worked at NMVP across the life cycle of fund raising, investing, building companies and exiting investments including GeoIQ. (Acquired by ESRI), Lightningcast (Acquired by AOL), Navtrak (Acquired by Telogis). Prior to co-founding NMVP in 2002, Rajesh worked in operational roles at Godrej-GE Appliances, Career Plan and Kirloskar Electric. Rajesh has been an angel investor/advisor with several high-growth companies including Simplilearn, Arctern (Acquired by Volt), CertusNet, Qarth payments, Venturesity.
Rajesh has taught graduate level courses at the University of Maryland, and as a Smith Fellow, served as faculty advisor to Smith School’s Executive Education programs. He has served on committees of the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Maryland Technology Development Corporation. Rajesh has an MBA from University of Maryland, B.E from NIT, Surathkal and has completed the Private Equity and Venture Capital Executive Program at Harvard Business School. Rajesh is married with two children.
