Shekhar has been in the high-tech industry for more than twenty years with successful experience in multiple domains in varied roles. Currently, Shekhar heads VeriSign India as Vice President and Country Manager and works out of his office in Bangalore. He is currently responsible for VeriSign India’s business strategy, PR, government relationships, and establishing new centers of excellence for the company within India. Before VeriSign India role, Shekhar worked at VeriSign head quarters in their strategy group from 2005 to 2007. As part of the group, Shekhar helped them through multiple mobile acquisitions and integration of the same. Shekhar came to VeriSign via an acquisition LightSurf Technologies a mobile messaging company in Bay Area, USA. As part of the founding team at LightSurf, the team created world’s first mobile picture messaging solution for North American market. The company was acquired by VeriSign for $270M in 2005.
Before LightSurf, Shekhar worked for another startup, Starfish Technologies, in Bay Area. Starfish was instrumental in bringing device, desktop, and server synchronization of semi-structured data and had applied that technology around consumer PIM data (contacts, calendars, etc). As part of the management team at Starfish, Shekhar was instrumental in working on a product that was integrated into Motorola handsets. Starfish was acquired by Motorola for $200M+ in 1998. Before Starfish, Shekhar worked for U S West in Boulder, Colorado (baby bell), Wipro Infotech (Bangalore), and TI (Bangalore). Shekhar has been part of creating more than 10+ patents. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from University of Minnesota, ME from IISc, and BE from Mysore University.
