Shravan Shroff is an enthusiastic and dynamic businessman with a graduation degree from Mumbai University and a Masters in Business Administration from the Melbourne Business School. He joined Shringar Films, the family run film distribution business in 1997 and gave it a boost by pioneering the concept of outsourced screen programming in the same year. Under his leadership the group commenced with one Fame multiplex (www.famecinemas.com) in Mumbai and rolled out a chain of 25 multiplexes across India. In Jan 2011, he sold Fame to Inox Leisure and exited the multiplex business, thereby having gained the experience of being associated with a start up, taking it through the private equity stage and final an exit. Not one to sit back and relax, Shravan is currently in the process of setting up a new line of business.
He is currently the Managing Partner of South Yarra Holdings, and is looking at investments in various sectors, which the aim of creating shareholder value and at the same time providing his management input in the companies that South Yarra invests in. He has recently partnered with Ravi Kiran, former CEO – South East & South Asia, Starcom Media Vest Group to launch India’s first angel-backed start-up accelerator Venture Nursery (www.venturenursery.com). Venture Nursery is based out of Mumbai and undertakes an intensive and immersive coaching and mentoring role in the chosen start-ups and helps each with end-to-end infrastructural and learning support.
Venture Nursery offers participating start-ups ,access business support partners for brand identity, media communication, website design, legal, accounting, company secretarial help for a reduced or delayed fee, paid directly.
At the end of the program, all start-ups get an opportunity to pitch to Venture Nursery Members for graduation, feedback and seed funding. A total of 23 companies have been accelerated by Venture Nursery, notably among those being Oyo Rooms, Talview, Sherpa, Invenzone, The Home Salon and Klip
Shravan is an active member of the Mumbai chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) a US based non-profit organization, and been Chapter Chair for the 2014-15. He served as on the Censor Board of India during 2009-2011.
He is actively involved Indian Angel Network a prominent angel networks of like-minded individuals.
Shravan’s entrepreneurship has been recognized all over India and he is often acknowledged through numerous awards and recognitions including Society magazines Top 100 achievers (2005), India Today Young Guns Top 50(2005), STAR screen distribution and exhibition award and many more. All this is attributed to his spectacular success in the exhibition sector through his maiden venture The Fame chain of multiplexes. In 2011, Shravan was awarded the 2010 Alumni Excellence Commendation for Media and Entertainment from the Australian High Commissioner to India as well.
Shravan at various times has spoken at ‘A’league universities and campuses of the Symbiosis, IITs and IIMs. He has been sharing his thoughts and expertise on not just robust business models but also the unique worth of humane and ethical business practices in the process of value creation for the benefit of the coming management generation.
