Viney Sahgal

Viney Sahgal started his career as a Mechanical Engineer with the Indian Railways, having graduated from the Railways own prestigious SCRA Scheme from Jamalpur. He was one of the pioneers associated with the setting up of the Diesel Locomotive Works in Varanasi, one of the premier production units of the Indian Railways. He has had several years stint in the private sector in various senior positions, before striking out in business as a promoter of a company manufacturing surgical scalpel blades, and then as an entrepreneur who was owner-Managing Director of M/s Quality Needles Pvt. Ltd., an export oriented unit manufacturing surgical suture needles, a critical and precision item. He was responsible for the growth of Quality Needles Pvt. Ltd. From a SSI unit to the position of the worlds largest independent surgical suture needle manufacturer, with a 18 % share of the global market. It is today recognized as a star Export House and is globally recognized for top quality products. Mr. Sahgals area of expertise includes machine design and automation. In 2015, he sold the shareholding of Quality Needles to TPG Growth, a US based PE, and at the request of the new shareholders, has continued to function as CMD of the company. He now proposes to retire as on March 31, 2019. He is a former President of the Noida Small Industries Association, Co-Convenor of the Noida Citizens Forum, and is actively associated with the All India Manufacturers Organization. He is a committed environmentalist, and is currently President of the Citizens Environment Improvement Society, Noida. He studied Environmental Management Practices in various countries. He has written numerous papers on Solid Waste Management, Bio-Medical Waste, Industrial Waste disposal, and related subjects. Mr. Sahgal is also a philanthropist & Managing Trustee of the Sahgals Paramahansa Yogananda Charitable trust which, inter alia, supports the Gyan Shakti Vidyalaya, focused on education for poor & under privileged children. His Trust is also setting up a charitable wing at ICare Hospital (Run by the Ishwar Charitable Trust), This performs free eye surgeries for cataract and other eye ailments for the poor.
